PASIR PUTEH: A 17-year-old teenager allegedly raped an underaged girl at padi field during the New Year's eve and attempted to flee to Kuala Lumpur after a report was lodged about it.
District police chief Superintendent Zaizul Rizal Zakaria said the suspect was detained in Bentong, Pahang yesterday, which was a day after they received the report.
The teenager was nabbed after police stopped a bus which was heading to Kuala Lumpur about 1pm.
He said police have received a report on the incident about 6.50am yesterday.
The report said that the teenager allegedly raped the 13-year-old girl at a padi field in Kampung Bukit Abal here.
"The victim was said to have gone out with the suspect without her mother's knowledge. The suspect brought her for on motorcycle from Pantai Bukit Keluang near Besut, Terengganu to Pasir Puteh just to celebrate New Year.
"However, when they arrived at a padi field in Kampung Bukit Abal, he raped her. The suspect later abandoned her at the roadside near the Banggol Judah police station in Machang. She was found by her family later."
Zaizul said in a statement that following the report, police arrested the suspect while he was about to escape to Kuala Lumpur.
The suspect is a labourer and would be remanded soon. The case is being investigated under Section 376 of Penal Code.
