Police fine 59-year-old for obstructing fire brigade vehicle

KULIM: A 59-year-old driver who reportedly obstructed a volunteer fire brigade (PBS) vehicle on the emergency lane of Jalan Lunas-Padang Serai last Sunday has been fined by police.

The incident gained traction on social media, prompting police intervention.

Kulim police chief Superintendent Mohd Azizul Mohd Khairi said they identified a 40-second video circulating on social media yesterday, depicting a vehicle refusing to yield to the Volunteer Fire Brigade vehicle on the emergency lane.

He disclosed that the incident occurred around 5.30pm last Sunday.

"The individual involved, a 59-year-old man with hearing difficulties, was subsequently summoned to the Kulim District Police headquarters Traffic Office, and a fine has been issued against him.

"Kulim police would like to remind road users to always adhere to road rules and regulations and advise them to give way to emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police, and fire trucks," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Azizul also urged the public to collectively combat crime by promptly reporting any crime-related information to the nearest police station or contacting the emergency line 999.
