Police nab syndicate distributing drugs in lemang-shaped slabs

HULU SELANGOR: Police crippled a drug distribution syndicate which deceived the authorities by packaging ganja in slabs shaped like 'lemang'.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said four men, including a foreigner were arrested during three raids in relation to the case.

In the first raid at 6pm on Thursday, police arrested a 36-year-old man in a car at a parking lot at an apartment in Bukit Beruntung.

Police seized 24 packets of plastic packaging containing ganja weighing about 14kg from the suspect's car.

"Following that, the police team arrested three more men, including a foreigner near a restaurant in Bukit Sentosa. Police found three grammes of ganja along with gun and a magazine in one of the suspect's vehicles," he told a press conference at the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters here today.

All those arrested are aged between 23 and 61.

Faizal said one of the suspects led the police to a storage unit in an apartment in Bukit Beruntung, where another 1.28kg of drugs believed to be ganja was found.

"Checks revealed that two suspects each had two records of drug and criminal offecses. Urine tests conducted on those arrested found only one suspect positive for drugs, while the other three tested negative," he said, adding the value of the drug seizure is RM43,710.

He said the drugs were believed to be intended for distribution in the Hulu Selangor district and the total seizure of 15.2kg could be used by 30,560 users per day.

Police also seized a four wheeled drive and RM383 from the suspects.

"All of them have been remanded for seven days starting yesterday until Feb 15 for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," Faizal said.
