MACC: We'll wait for Adlan to return, check on progress of Interpol red notice

MERSING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will review the progress of the Interpol red notice issued against the son-in-law of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan.

MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, said the police had requested red notices from Interpol against Adlan and his lawyer Mansoor Saat, 69, in October last year.

"We have yet to receive information on the whereabouts of Muhammad Adlan and his lawyer.

"MACC will further check with Interpol (to see if they have been located). For now, we await his (Muhammad Adlan) return to this country to face charges in court.

"Efforts are ongoing, and we have also requested the police to list Muhammad Adlan in the wanted persons list. MACC is still trying, not just with him, but also with his lawyer.

"We are now waiting for him (Muhammad Adlan) to return (to Malaysia) first before accusing him in court," he said.

He said this at a press conference after the opening ceremony of the MACC Mersing Branch Office, here, today.

Also present were MACC Johor Director, Datuk Azmi Alias and Mersing District Officer, Jamil Hasni Abdullah.

Last Thursday, Azam was reported to have confirmed that several charges against Muhammad Adlan, who is also a businessman, were already complete.

Azam was reported to have said that the charges against Muhammad Adlan involved several allegations, including criminal breach of trust (CBT).

In August last year, it was reported that the MACC was tracking down two local men to assist in the investigation into the embezzlement case involving the registration, recruitment, and storage of biometric data of foreign workers for a ministry.

They are Muhammad Adlan and his lawyer, Mansoor Saat, both of whom were identified to have left Malaysia, respectively on May 17 and May 21, 2023.

In October 2023, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, was reported to have confirmed that the application for red notices against Muhammad Adlan and Mansoor had been submitted to Interpol.

The decision to list their names in the red notice was made after MACC requested to determine the whereabouts of both individuals.

On Feb 28, 2023, Muhyiddin, when speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, denied allegations that his son and son-in-law (Adlan) obtained contracts in the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe).

He said so when intervening after chaos erupted when Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) made the allegations at the beginning of the 2023 Budget policy debate in parliament.
