Police tracking down suspects involved in Kulim coffee shop murder

KULIM: Police are tracking down suspects involved in an attack that led to the death of a 27-year-old man at a coffee shop near Taman Damai in Padang Serai here today.

In the 1.20pm incident, the victim, employed as a truck driver, succumbed to injuries inflicted by two armed assailants wielding a machete and sickle.

Kulim deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Safuan Md Nor said that the motive behind the attack is still under investigation.

"The victim was pursued by the suspects from outside the shop. He attempted to flee and entered the coffee shop but was then attacked with sharp weapons, resulting in his death inside the coffee shop.

"The victim sustained severe injuries from the sharp weapon attacks on his hands, chest, back, and face.

"The police are conducting an investigation and efforts to track down the suspects are underway," he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"The body has been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for post-mortem," he added.

Meanwhile, he urged the public to refrain from circulating images of the deceased on social media.

"Several images of the deceased, covered in blood, have been circulating publicly. Please refrain from circulating this.

"The police also request anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the authorities to assist in the investigation," he added.
