Azam Baki: No, MACC did not contact Wan Saiful

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today refuted claims that the anti-graft busters has reached out to Tasek Gelugor member of Parliament Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan over the remarks he made in Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

The matter was confirmed by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki here today.

"I have checked with my investigation officers (over the claims made by Wan Saiful).

"It was found out that none of my officers had contacted him.

"Maybe he was contacted by someone who claimed to be from MACC," he told reporters after attending the National Anti-Corruption Summit 2024 here today.

The event was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Azam nevertheless said Wan Saiful should have lodge a report on the claims he made during yesterday's Dewan Rakyat sitting to the MACC.

"This is because when a person is being offered bribes, they should visit any police station or MACC office to lodge a complaint or report over the matter," he said.

Azam promised a comprehensive and thorough investigation into all the complaints and reports lodged to the MACC.

Wan Saiful yesterday said he has been contacted by the MACC shortly after claiming that he was offered financial remuneration to support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Via a Facebook post, Wan Saiful said he was asked by MACC officers to lodge a report regarding his claim made in the Dewan Rakyat on the same day.

The Tasek Gelugor MP claimed that he was contacted via phone by numerous individuals for the purpose.

He claimed that he met the individuals on Jan 17 at a hotel in Bukit Bintang, where he was been offered a reward in return for expressing his support for Anwar, including an allocation of RM1.7 million for his constituency.
