Wan Saiful says MACC has asked him to lodge report on 'money for support' claim

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said he has been contacted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) shortly after claiming that he was offered financial remuneration to support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Via a Facebook post, Wan Saiful said he was asked by MACC officers to lodge a report regarding his claim made in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Wan Saiful, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member, said he would adhere to the request.

"However, what I want to know is what action will be taken to stop the use of public funds to entice Bersatu members of parliament.

"Wouldn't it be better if the funds were used for the people's welfare?" he wrote.

Wan Saiful caused a stir in the Dewan Rakyat today when he claimed that he was offered a substantial amount to pledge his support for the prime minister.

The Tasek Gelugor MP claimed that he was contacted via phone by numerous individuals for the purpose.

He claimed that he met the individuals on Jan 17 at a hotel in Bukit Bintang, where he was been offered a reward in return for expressing his support for Anwar, including an allocation of RM1.7 million for his constituency.
