No bribe, no escape: Pakistani national arrested for alleged bribery attempt

KOTA BARU: A Pakistani national was arrested by the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly offering RM200 to a police officer this morning.

The foreigner, in his 30s, was traveling in a van with another Pakistani when they were arrested in Tumpat around 1.20am.

Sources indicated that the two were apprehended while passing a roadblock set up by the General Operations Force.

"The foreigner allegedly attempted to bribe the officer with RM200 so that no action would be taken against him and his friend, who is also in his 30s.

"Both were found to have violated traffic regulations and committed immigration offences," said the source.

Meanwhile, Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

He said the foreigner has been remanded for six days at the Kota Baru magistrate's court today.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 17 (b) of the MACC Act 2009.
