Plantation worker who gang-raped teen gets five years and three strokes of rotan

MUAR: An Indonesian plantation worker pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here on Thursday to gang-raping a teenager at a house in Segamat two years ago.

Haerul Rahman, 26, made the plea after the charges were read to him before Judge Abu Bakar Manat through an interpreter.

Haerul, along with seven other locals, including three juveniles, raped a 15-year-old teenager in a house on a plantation land in Segamat at 1.30am on Sept 12, 2022.

He was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 20 years and also caning, if found guilty.

According to the charge sheet, Haerul and his friends had called the victim to the house. Upon arrival, they invited the victim into a room and raped her.

Following the incident, the victim filed a police report at the Tenang police station in Segamat.

Three of the juvenile accused had already been charged at the Segamat magistrate's court, while the other four were charged at the Muar Sessions Court.

Deputy public prosecutor Danial Munir prosecuted, while the accused was not unrepresented.

All sentences will run from the date of the accused's detention on Sept 25, 2022.
