KULAI: A 16-year-old teenager was among three men arrested for allegedly hurling a Molotov cocktail into a house along Jalan Jelentik in Taman Damai, here, for monetary-gains, on Wednesday.

District police chief Superintendent Tan Seng Lee said preliminary investigations revealed that all suspects aged between 16 and 29 confessed to carrying out the attack with the promise of monetary compensation.

However, he did not disclose the motive behind the attack, and the other parties involved.

The trio were arrested in two raids between 3am and 5am, yesterday (March 14) in housing estates in Seri Alam. They have been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code for knowingly causing mischief by fire.

All three tested negative for drugs, but two of them had a previous criminal record.

Police confiscated their mobile phones, and the clothing they were believed were wearing during the incident.

Earlier, a 70-year-old man lodged a police report when he noticed burn marks on the front of his front house..

He viewed the footage of his closed-circuit television system and saw that two men on a motorcycle had thrown the Molotov cocktail at 1.50pm before fleeing.

Tan said following the report and viewing the footage, police conducted two raids and arrested the suspects.

He said investigations are underway to establish if the suspects were involved in other criminal cases or arson attacks in the district.
