Five cops detained for gang robbery

KUALA LUMPUR: Five policemen were among seven men arrested for allegedly robbing a foreigner of his watch and RM260,000 in an incident here on Saturday.

City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said acting on the complainant's report, a team of police officers initially arrested three suspects at 11.50pm the next day.

"Based on the information obtained from the first suspects, police raided another location and arrested four others, including a former policeman and a civilian" he said in a statement today.

Rusdi said all those arrested are aged between 28 and 41.

Five of the suspects have been remanded for four days starting yesterday, while the remaining two men are also being remanded for four days beginning today.

The case is being investigated under Sections 395/170 of Penal Code for gang robbery and impersonating a public servant.

It is learnt that one of the suspects is a former VAT 69 officer who had impersonated a police during the robbery at a condominium in Jalan Tun Razak here.

"The case is still under investigation and we assure that no one will be protected in the course of investigation, regardless even if it is one of our own," said Rusdi.
