Civil servant engineer claims trial to cheating involving RM20,000 payment vouchers

ALOR STAR: A civil servant engineer, 55, was charged today with cheating involving payment vouchers for training course service fees worth RM19,950.

Fadziyani Mohamed claimed trial to the charges before judge Jean Sharmila Jesudason at the Alor Star Sessions Court.

According to the charge, Fadziyani, who was then state Public Works Department military unit chief at the Sungai Petani field camp, conspired with Mohd Aswad Hamzah, the Genius Intellect Services Sdn Bhd manager, to deceive an assistant accountant from the state Accountant-General's Department.

The act allegedly deceived the assistant accountant to approve payment vouchers for Staff Air Conditioning Installation Training Course fees to Genius Intellect Services.

She was accused of committing the act at the state Accountant-General's Department office in Alor Star on May 31, 2018, and was charged under Section 415 of the Penal Code.

She could face penalties under Section 417 of the Penal Code, coupled with Section 109, which carries imprisonment for up to five years, a fine, or both.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Mohd Zulfadli Azharudin prosecuted while lawyer Mohd Norazam Majid represented the accused.

Zulfadli proposed bail at RM30,000 with one surety, along with requirements for the accused to surrender her passport and report to the nearest MACC office monthly.

Norazam pleaded for a lower bail.

Jean Sharmila set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and for the accused to surrender her passport and report to the nearest MACC office each month.

The court fixed May 20 for mention of the case.

Fadziyani posted bail.
