MACC yet to find any wrongdoing in probe into FAM project, says source

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has yet to find any elements of bribery or embezzlement in its probe into a RM25 million Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) project.

Sources said the commission has recorded statements from 14 witnesses and conducted 10 site visits to the National Training Centre (NTC), the project at the heart of MACC's probe.

The investigations indicate the funds involved came from FIFA.

"Seven contractors were invited to submit a tender and three were shortlisted. The tenders from all three were presented to FIFA in its meeting on April 8 and one company was awarded the contract.

"The current status is that FAM is preparing the documents for the agreement for the contract, based on FIFA's selection," said one source.

The source said MACC's investigations into the case were nearing completion and would be presented to the legal and prosecution division director for a decision.

Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed that a thorough investigation was being carried out.

"As was said by the chief commissioner (Tan Sri Azam Baki), MACC is focused on any issues of wrongdoing under the MACC Act 2009.

"Nevertheless, we will leave it to the prosecution division to make any decision on the matter," he said.

Recently, a poison pen letter surfaced in which allegations of corruption were aimed at FAM in regard to the NTC construction project.

The letter urged MACC to investigate the tender process which was carried out by FAM.
