(UPDATE) Sisters left orphaned as lorry crash in Sungai Bakap kills parents

SUNGAI BAKAP: Two sisters were left orphaned after their parents were killed in a crash here this evening.

In the 5.45pm incident at Km155 of the North South Expressway near here, the lorry their father was driving had rammed into another lorry parked at the emergency lane to answer a telephone call.

Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Shafee Abdul Samad said the couple were killed instantly due to serious bodily injuries.

He said the two girls, aged two and 10, fractured their left and right leg, respectively.

"They are being treated at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

"We have managed to get in touch with their next-of-kin," he said.

Shafee said the husband has been identified as Khosim Ismail, 32, from Felda Lepar Utara in Jerantut, Pahang while the wife, Khairunnisa Ahmad Kamaluddin, 31.

He said the younger girl has been identified as Khaira Amni Khosim and the sister, Khairiyah Alisha Khosim.

The driver of the other lorry, 25, escaped unhurt.

The case is investigated under Section 41(1 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Shafee said police there were no closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the scene as well as witnesses.
