Najib off to Sandakan, KK, for two-day working visit

KOTA KINABALU: Upgrade works for the Sandakan Airport project – part of a move to lure more tourists to the city – will be officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak this Sunday.

The launch ceremony will be part of Najib’s two-day working visit to Sabah over the weekend.

During his visit to Sandakan in March this year, Najib had said the airport’s runway will be extended to allow larger aircraft to land, thus helping to boost tourism and the district’s economy.

It is expected to accommodate bigger aircraft, like the Airbus 330, to allow direct flights from China.

Najib, who is slated to arrive here this evening, will kick-start his programme with the launch of the Gabungan Rakan Entrepreneur Aspirasi Terhebat (Great) 2017 tomorrow morning.

He will then fly off to Sandakan to attend a dinner with the Barisan Nasional component of Zone 5.

The prime minister is also slated to meet the people at the Jom Bantu Rakyat Ziarah programme in Kg Sim Sim, as well as the Ekspresi Negaraku programme at the town field in Sandakan.
