Drunken man who verbally abused policeman in video remanded

KUALA LUMPUR: An allegedly intoxicated man who recorded a video of himself behaving in a hostile manner towards a police officer has been remanded for two days.

Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sukri Kaman said the 30-something man, who claims to be a nightclub DJ, is remanded until Monday to facilitate investigations under criminal offences related to the content of the video.

The man had been pulled over by traffic police on Saturday, and after failing a breathalyser test, was brought to a police station.

In the one-minute-and-43-second video, he is seen in the passenger seat of a car driven by a traffic policeman.

He hurled vulgar and harsh words at the policeman, saying that the cop was wasting his time. He was adamant that he was not drunk.

He also allegedly said that the incident demonstrated that Malaysian police are corrupt, and vowed to post the recorded video on Facebook.

City Traffic Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nadzri Hussain said the man was later confirmed to be intoxicated.

He is expected to be charged with driving under the influence on Monday.
