Musa thanks Najib for Sandakan airport's RM80mil allocation, bold decisions

KOTA KINABALU: The Barisan Nasional government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been receptive to Sabah’s request for more socio-economic development.

Thanking Najib for granting an RM80 million allocation for the Sandakan airport runway extension, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the Prime Minister’s approval for the project was a testimony to his ability to act promptly to the people’s grouses.

“Those in the tourism sector voiced their concern on the limitations of the present Sandakan airport, which poses an obstacle to the growth of tourism in the area,” he said in a statement.

He added that Najib was not only attentive but dared to make bold decisions such as the cabotage policy exemption for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

“The (cabotage) policy has been a source of contention among industry players and small businesses alike.

“The bold decision will certainly help the manufacturing and export industry, making Sabah’s goods more competitive and will in the long run help in the state’s economic development,” said Musa.

Aside from the cabotage policy, he said Najib was also attentive to numerous issues such as restoration of state’s rights and devolution of powers raised during the meeting with Sabah Cabinet yesterday.

“It’s very easy to highlight only the bad and overlook the good that the BN has done. The BN leadership is not only receptive but is daring enough to make bold decisions and undo policies that do not serve the rakyat,” Musa stressed.
