35 SK Taman Selasih pupils in Kulim down with food poisoning

ALOR STAR: At least 35 pupils of SK Taman Selasih in Kulim were down with food poisoning after taking breakfast at the school’s canteen this morning.

The pupils, from Year One to Year Five began developing symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea about 11.45am.

Kedah Health Department director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said out of the 35 pupils affected, only five of them had sought outpatient treatment at the Kulim Hospital.

“Initial investigation showed that all the victims had taken rice and fried chicken at the canteen during the recess time.

“Checks showed that all the food sold at the canteen were prepared at Kolej Vokasional Kulim as the operator had just taken over the canteen from the previous operator whose service ended yesterday,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Norhizan said the canteen has been ordered to temporarily cease its operations pending further investigation by the Kulim District Health Office.
