Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia hoping to contest in 10 state seats and three parliamentary seats in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) is eyeing to contest in 10 state seats and three parliamentary seats held by Umno in Penang for the coming 14th general election.

State PPBM chairman Marzuki Yahya, however, said they would await for a final decision by the Pakatan Harapan presidential council on the seat allocation for the polls.

“If it is possible, we want to contest in all the seats currently held by Umno,” he said when asked on which seats PPBM would be contesting in.

The three parliamentary seats are Kepala Batas, Tasek Gelugor and Balik Pulau.

The 10 state seats are Sungai Dua, Permatang Berangan, Penaga, Sungai Acheh, Pinang Tunggal, Pulau Betong, Telok Ayer Tawar and Bertam on the mainland and Bayan Lepas and Teluk Bahang on the island.

Marzuki hinted that they were also eyeing Permatang Pasir, which is Pas’ only seat in the state, but stressed that it would be left to the Pakatan leadership to decide.

He said PPBM was confident in getting votes from the rural areas, which are Umno’s stronghold traditionally.

“PPBM’s success is not just about our chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s popularity but also due to the demand for a change in the government,” he said.

He said PPBM was also prepared to face a likelihood of all seats to have three-cornered fights.

“We will work together with out allies so we do not have clashes like that in the last general election in Sungai Acheh between PKR and Pas,” he added.
