Four-year-old falls to death from 14th floor of Balakong condominium

KAJANG: A four-year-old Sudanese girl was killed when she fell from the 14th floor of a condominium in Taman Taming Jaya, Balakong, here.

The victim’s mother is now being detained under Section 33 of the Child Act 2001 for leaving the child without reasonable supervision.

The girl was left asleep alone at the home in the 11.05pm incident on Saturday.

It is believed that in a bid to look for mother, the girl had managed to drag a plastic chair to the balcony before climbing onto the chair.

She, however, lost balance as she was looking for her mother and fell over the balcony.

A passer-by found the body of the girl sprawled on the ground floor.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nanyan said investigations have revealed that the girl had died of severe head injuries.

“The victim’s mother had gone down to pick up two of her other children. The girl was left alone at home that time without supervision.

“It is believed that the girl woke up and realised that her mother was not at home,” he said.

Police investigation found a chair on the balcony which was originally from the living room.

Othman said police believed the incident was due to the negligence of the mother, adding investigations still on-going.
