SMAP Kajang, SM Sains Kuching Utara emerge winners in 44th Prime Minster's Trophy debate

BANTING: Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan (SMAP) Kajang and Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching Utara (SAKURA) were crowned champions at the 44th Prime Minister's Trophy debate in the Bahasa Melayu and English categories, respectively.

In the final round held at Sekolah Menengah Sains Banting here yesterday, SMAP Kajang which had won the title sixth times, beat SMS Batu Pahat, Johor (SEHEBAT), through the debate entitled ''Pembelian Produk Tempatan Meningkatkan Nilai Ringgit Malaysia'' (Purchase of Local Products Increases the Value of Ringgit Malaysia).

SAKURA, which won the competition in the English category for the first time, defeated Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, Putrajaya, in the debate titled ''This House Would Introduce Common Currency for All Asian Countries''.

SMAP Kajang's Wan Mu'izuddin Nawawi Wan Anuar emerged as the best debater in the Bahasa Melayu category, while Nazmi Ahmad Nizar from SAKURA was voted best debater in the English category.

The debate competition is exclusively held for boarding schools.

Perbadanan Kota Buku chairman, Tan Sri Abd Ghafar Mahmud presented the prizes and certificates to the winners. – Bernama
