Tangkak car crash kills brothers, parents survive with injuries

TANGKAK: Two brothers were killed and their parents injured when the car they were travelling in collided with another car at Km42 Jalan Muar-Segamat this morning.

In the 9am accident, A.N. Philip Michael, 31, who was driving, and his brother A.N. Eric Michael, 24, were killed on the spot when the Proton Wira they were in collided with a Honda Jazz. The driver and passenger of the Honda Jazz were also injured.

The Wira was travelling from Segamat to Tangkak.

Tangkak police chief Superintendent Mohad Idris Samsuri said the accident occurred when the driver of the Wira, lost control of the car and swerved into the opposite lane before colliding with the Jazz.

"The collision killed the two victims instantly while the passengers in the back of the Wira were injured. The driver of the other car and his wife, who is seven months pregnant, suffered face and back injuries," said Idris.

He said the victims from the Wira were taken to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for treatment while the victims from the Jazz were taken to Tangkak Hospital.

"The bodies of the deceased were also taken to Tangkak Hospital for post-mortems and were claimed by family members at about 2 pm," said Idris.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and police have asked witnesses to step forward to help in the investigation.
