MaybankJomRaya reminds Malaysians the true meaning of Hari Raya

KUALA LUMPUR: Following the success of Maybank’s JomRaya song in 2016, Maybank today released an updated rendition of its popular song, this time, with children taking centre stage in the newly produced video.

MaybankJomRaya is a one of its kind initiative by the regional banking giant, which draws its tune from Maybank’s corporate song that is played daily on multiple platforms in its offices around the world.

The song then takes its heart and emotion from the festive season, featuring lyrics that focus on values which have been core to Maybank’s growth. This includes the essence and values of family – hope, gratitude, and togetherness – befitting the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.

The lyrics of the song are especially poignant as the country comes to terms with an ever-changing social, economic background but the heart of the nation remains strong.

This emotion is brought to life by the children who deliver a musical message that centres on the fact that Hari Raya is a season for forgiveness, happiness, joy, celebration and thanksgiving. It is a time Malaysians come together regardless of race or religion to celebrate the occasion.

As the song focuses largely on the spirit of familial ties, the Maybank advertisement is also one where the children are the stars. And rather than professional singers, the child actors and actresses give their own fun twist to the JomRaya song.

In Malaysia, our unique multiculturalism has given birth to the most unique expression of Hari Raya on the planet – one that is marked, celebrated and embraced by over 30 million people from a host of cultures, religions, backgrounds and languages.

At this time of year, we all speak the same language that of love and joy. And what better way to express it than through the eyes of the most innocent ones, a child.

The MaybankJomRaya video narrative follows the various scenes of the season and the preparation of the celebration from a child’s perspective. Through this, the key message on the importance of life values such as unity, friendship, and respect – values that are core to Malaysians, ASEAN and global citizens – is the common thread that binds us all as one.

Making it even more personal and personable to the bank, the video was shot with children of Maybankers and young talents in order to provide them the opportunity to experience what it is like to work behind the scenes as well as to unleash hidden potentials.

This decision was key to the creation of the video, according to the production team, as it included the future generation of leaders, thinkers and dreamers.

But celebrations aren’t complete without including family, friends, and colleagues. To get the ball rolling, Maybank has created a contest on Smule where participants can upload videos of themselves singing the MaybankJomRaya Song.

The contest is open to submissions from four countries – Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Philippines – beginning from June 25. There are attractive prizes to be won to add to the season’s joy!
