4 army officers hurt when Myvi rams rail guard, dangles over embankment

MELAKA: Four army officers sustained serious injuries when the Perodua Myvi they were travelling in rammed a rail guard along the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) expressway near Bukit Lintang here, and was left dangling over an embankment.

In the 9.45am incident today, the quartet, aged between 21 and 22, were travelling to Muar from Melaka town when the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the metal divider, leaving it partly suspended over an embankment.

Jalan Kubu Fire and Rescue operations commander, Senior Fire Officer II Khairudin Atan said a distress call was received at 9.55am and they arrived at the scene 15 minutes later.

“As soon as we arrived, we had to first stabilise the car to avoid it from falling before we could start our extrication procedures.

"All four victims were rushed to the Melaka Hospital for further treatment," he said.

It is learnt that the vehicle was driven by Muhammad Amirul Kamaruddin, 21, while the passengers were Khairul Faiszie Ramlie, 21, Muhammad Nur Ariff Idris, 21 and Muhammad Salihin Abdul Jalal, 22.

They are all attached with the Markas Tentera Darat, Kementah, Padang Tembak in Kuala Lumpur.

State Traffic Department head Superintendent Mohd Sham Abdullah said the driver sustained a neck injury, while passengers Khairul Faiszie sustained facial injuries, Muhammad Nur Ariff sustained injuries on his back, and Muhammad Salihin sustained injuries to his face, hand and left leg.

"Initial investigation revealed that the road was wet (during the time of the accident)," he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
