Businessman brings cheer to single mother of five with Raya surprise

KOTA BARU: In the spirit of giving, a businessman here brought cheer to single mother, Zalida Ismail and her five children with a modest contribution for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The 40-year-old Zalida, from Kampung Banggol Lepah near Ketereh here, had celebrated Raya modestly as her husband and the family’s sole breadwinner had passed away seven days ago from a massive asthma attack.

The widow had said that the family could not afford to buy Raya biscuits or cakes and when the family’s plight made its rounds in Facebook recently, the difficulties that they were faced with, touched the heart of businessman Datuk Seri Sunny Ung.

Ung had paid Zalida and her family a surprise visit today to present them with his Raya contribution.

Zalida expressed her deepest gratitude to Ung and said that the family was struggling as she could not even afford to feed her children.

“Since my husband Zawawi Yunus passed away due to an asthma attack last week, I have no one to rely on except my mother who lives in Kok Lanas, but she is also poor and cannot afford to support us all the time,” she said.

Thanking the businessman for his kind donation, Zalida said she will be looking for a proper job soon to support her family including her three children who are schooling.

It is understood that her two other children had to drop out of school as the family could not afford it.
