3-year-old becomes 2nd fatality of Arau MPV crash; 3 others still critical

ARAU: A 3-year-old girl who was critically injured when the multipurpose vehicle she was in crashed into a tree here last night, died early this morning.

Nur Ufairah Afiqa Mohd Zaini succumbed to her injuries at about 2.15am at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Kangar, several hours after the 8.30pm accident.

She is the second fatality from the accident which saw her 4-year-old cousin, Nursyazani Sharin, dying at the same hospital’s emergency unit about 20 minutes after the accident.

Nursyazani’s mother, Norhana Syawal, 30, is still in critical condition at the hospital.

Also injured were Norhana’s brother, Mohd Zaini Syawal, 41 and his 6-year-old daughter, Nur Uzma Aqilah.

Arau police chief Superintendent Nanda Maarof said the accident occurred at Km16 of the Kuala Perlis-Changlun trunk road.

He said initial investigation suggests that Nursyazani's father, Sharin Sajat, 30, had lost control of the Honda Stream MPV he was driving before it skidded and crashed into the tree.
