T'ganu to offer 5,900 vacant lots for the needy to build homes

KUALA NERUS: To ease the difficulty of securing homes, Terengganu will offer 5,900 vacant lots from the state’s housing land to the needy.

This will enable the people to take ownership of the land and build homes.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said that the state government would advertise the location to be put to good use.

“The Lands and Mines Office will publicise vacant land to be sold effective Aug 1.

“This initiative will easily facilitate the people to apply to own the land without having to exhaustively search for it,” he said.

Razif added that the allocation of land would be strictly monitored to prevent abuse, just like what has been done for the affordable homes project for the deserving.

He said among the conditions to be fulfilled by applicants were that they do not yet own a plot of land and that they were able to pay 10 per cent premium on the value of the land sought.

“Thereafter, the land purchaser has to build a house on the lot within three years.

“Failing which, the state government will seize the said land and offer it to other deserving cases,” he warned.

Razif added that the underprivileged could apply for the hardcore poor people’s housing project with a nominal deposit of RM100 to purchase homes at RM40,000.

In response, Terengganu Umno youth chief Mohd Johari Abu Bakar welcomed the offer of vacant land for the people as it would alleviate the difficulty faced by the people.

“This initiative will facilitate the younger generation to own land to build their homes.

“We wish to suggest a 30 per cent quota to be reserved for young married couples with children, so that they can live comfortably as a family,” said Johari.
