No new cases of rabies in Sarawak to date, rumours unfounded

KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said no new case of rabies has been reported in Sarawak amidst rumours suggesting otherwise.

The secretariat, in a statement today, said there are only four confirmed cases of people contracting rabies since the outbreak of the virus in the Serian district last month.

“There are no new cases of rabies infecting humans reported until today,” said the statement.

The secretariat said three victims have died from contracting rabies while another victim is in critical condition at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here.

As of today, the 11 health teams deployed at the scene have identified 263 cases of people with history of being bitten by dogs.

“A total of 197 people have been vaccinated,” the secretariat said.
