Thousands attend Defence Ministry's Hari Raya open house

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 3,000 members of the armed forces, veteran soldiers and their family members were treated to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri feast hosted by the Defence Ministry.

Held at Wisma Perwira Angkatan Tentera Malaysia here today, guests were treated to a sumptuous spread of local delicacies which included rendang, lemang, ketupat, soto, laksam and many more.

They were also entertained by musical and cultural dance performances during the event.

Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum, Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, Army chief General Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim and Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) chief Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin attended the open house.

At the event, the Deputy Defence Minister and the army chiefs also took the opportunity taking photos with the guests.

Meanwhile in JOHOR BARU, guests at the Kempas assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putra Haron Aminurrashid Jumat's home were treated to a different kind of Hari Raya open house.

About 7,000 people who attended the event today, apart from enjoying the meal provided, also took the opportunity to look at artefacts related to Prophet Muhammad and his companions on display at the hall of the Tenaga Nasional Bhd's housing complex in Kempas.

Tengku Putra said five artefacts related to the Prophet include a walking stick, sand taken from his tomb, specially preserved pieces of the Prophet's hair and beard kept in intricate containers, and blood trace from a cupping apparatus.

The items, he said, were brought in from various custodians of the artefacts around the world.

"These items were obtained from many custodians from countries such as Jordan and they were especially brought to Kempas to be displayed.

"The one-day exhibition held in conjunction with the state constituency-level open house is a prelude to a much bigger exhibition set to be held at the Sultan Iskandar Mosque in Bandar Dato' Onn from Sept 1-30 this year." he said.
