All agencies under Home Ministry must sign corruption-free pledge, says Zahid

PUTRAJAYA: It is compulsory for all agencies and departments under the Home Ministry to sign a corruption-free pledge.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this is to ensure that all 10 agencies and departments under the ministry is free of corruption and to enable them to give the best service for the people.

"This is to show the government's commitment in curbing corrupt practices among our civil servants. It is not merely rethoric.

"We also want to get rid of the negative perception by the rakyat that we are all corrupted.

"I urge other political parties and organisations to do the same (sign the corruption-free pledge). We should put aside our political differences and focus on our main goal, which is to fight corruption," he told reporters after attending the ministry's monthly assembly.

Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said the police and People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) have signed the pledge, and this will be followed by the Immigration Department.

On Pakatan Harapan's plan to hold a mass rally on Oct 14, Zahid said the government has nothing against the plan as long as it adheres to the Peaceful Assembly Act.

He said Barisan Nasional government is not shaken by their move to hold the rally.

"The government is open to any parties to hold a rally. They can proceed with the assembly if they comply with the conditions.

"The government will not be affected by this rally. Bersih had previously organised mass rallies several times," he said.

Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said that the coalition will hold a rally in October to protest against the government.

The rally, expected to be held at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya, will also focus on issues relating to the alleged mismanagement of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
