Cherating boy severely injured after falling from school's fourth floor

KUANTAN: A 12-year-old student's desire to catch birds led to him falling from the fourth floor of SK Cherating here, yesterday afternoon.

In the 3.30pm incident, Muhammad Syawal Heri, along with his four friends, had climbed to the school's roof before he lost his footing.

He slipped and fell from a height of 30 metres. He sustained severe injuries as a result.

Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said the victim, from Kampung Bukit Palas, Cherating, was rushed to Kemaman Hospital due to severe head injuries.

"Further investigation, including recording statements from the victim's friends and school staff, is still being carried out," he said.

It is understood that the district education office is conducting its own internal investigation.
