KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) today dismissed as false claims that October 13 is the date for the upcoming general election.
In a statement, the EC said a viral video shared by irresponsible parties had served to confuse the people. "The video is a training simulation for EC employees.
"EC will monitor and investigate any form of false news being uploaded on social media to ensure the commission's reputation is not adversely affected."
The EC might lodge a police report against the people spreading the video on social media so that action can be taken against them, the statement said.
The 39-second clip spread on social media showed a meeting held by the EC where the date for the GE14 was announced as being on Oct 13.
