KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed today downplayed a meeting between National Anti Drugs Agency (Nada) director-general Datuk Dr Abd Halim Mohd Hussin and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday, saying that it is nothing out of the ordinary.
It is the norm, he said, for anti-drug agencies to engaging with bodies such as MACC as part of the former’s anti-drug awareness programmes.
Questions were raised yesterday when Abd Halim was seen entering the Selangor MACC office in Shah Alam. It was learnt that Abd Halim spent about three hours at the office before leaving for lunch. He was seen re-entering the office about 2.50pm.
Nur Jazlan said he did not want to elaborate on the matter as it could prejudice the investigation, if there was any.
"I don't know (about the issue). If I commented, it would prejudice the investigation.
"It is normal for MACC to run an investigation on anyone based on reports lodged, but most of them were not charged," said the Pemadam president after launching the ‘Retreat Anak Muda Penggerak Pemadam’ programme, here today.
Abd Halim's appearance at the MACC office was allegedly to facilitate an investigation into a case being probed by the anti-graft body.
Selangor MACC director Datuk Wan Ramli Wan Abdullah, when contacted by the NST, had confirmed the meeting, saying Abd Halim was summoned to provide a statement, but declined to elaborate.
However, Abd Halim when met by reporters at the MACC office denied that he was called in to assist a graft probe.
He had said his presence at the enforcement agency had nothing to do with any case.
“There is nothing. I did not give any statement whatsoever. There is something else. I am here to discuss future anti-drugs programmes with the MACC,” he had said.
