More than RM100m in fines collected so far, thanks to Awas cameras

KUALA LUMPUR: The Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas) has collected more than RM100 million in fines up until June this year.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, in a parliamentary reply, said there are currently 21 Awas cameras in operation nationwide.

"Up until June 2017, the total Awas fines that were collected amount to RM110,938,770.

"As of now, there are 21 Awas cameras involving eight locations in Perak, two in Selangor, three in Kuala Lumpur, two in Putrajaya, two in Johor, one in Kelantan, one in Kedah and two in Terengganu," he said.

Liow was responding to question from DAP's Rasah Member of Parliament Teo Kok Seong, who asked the former on the number of operational Awas cameras nationwide, the cost of installation and the total of fines collected so far.
