Dubai move a 'fatamorgana', says Ahmad Maslan

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno leader described the 'Dubai Move' to topple the Unity Government as a 'fatamorgana', a term meaning imaginary or mere illusion.

Umno Supreme Working Council (MKT) member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said this is because all 30 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs had signed a pledge to pay RM100 million if they defected.

"The Dubai move? This is just a fantasy. For 30 MPs (Members of Parliament) of Umno and BN, we have already signed (an agreement) to pay RM100 million per person if we want to jump (party)," he wrote on the X platform today.

Yesterday, Community Communications Department (J-KOM) deputy director (community communications) Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that the Dubai move surfaced during the recent vacation of leaders from Perikatan Nasional (PN), including government officials, in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He claimed that the meeting took place to discuss and assign specific tasks to 'agents' responsible for identifying members of parliament (MPs) who might switch support to the opposition through inducements, solely to establish a 'tebuk atap (backdoor)' government.

Commenting further, Ahmad who is the deputy minister of the Works Ministry said that BN MPs also do not have RM100 million in money, apart from the fact that the government's current position is strong.

"Which MP has that amount of money? Even if 30 of us defected, the government is still intact with 122 (MPs) in support".. the rakyat wants stability and economic strength," he said.
