25,000 litres of acid spilled in fatal tanker lorry accident; Plus closes highway

SEREMBAN: A tanker lorry driver was killed and two women were badly injured in an accident at Km251.6 of the Plus highway near Senawang at 3am this morning.

The tanker lorry, which had overturned, spilled 25,000 litres of acid and chemicals onto the highway.

The accident is believed to have occurred when the tanker lorry, driven by a man in his 30s, collided with a Toyota carrying two women.

Both women were extricated from the wreckage and sent to the nearest hospital, said Fire and Rescue Department senior officer Zainurin.

In response to the incident, Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan (Plus) has temporarily closed the highway in both directions for clean-up operations by the hazardous materials unit (Hazmat).

Meanwhile, a Plus spokesperson said southbound motorists can exit Bandar Ainsdale or the Seremban toll exit and re-enter the highway at Simpang Empat; and vice versa for northbound motorists.
