Giant screen set up for #QuranHour at Dataran Merdeka

KUALA LUMPUR: A giant 200-metre-long screen has been set up at Dataran Merdeka as organisers make their preparations for the much anticipated Merdeka #QuranHour next week.

The big screen, standing at 9-metres high, would be the centrepiece of the venue, displaying Quranic verses and translations to 2,000 expected guests this Thursday night (Aug 31).

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation chief executive officer, Marhaini Yusoff said the crowd would be able to watch vibrant videos and multimedia presentations prepared for them via the high resolution LED screen.

"We are even more excited for the event after seeing them (workers) set up the giant LED screen. We had a dry run of the digital content and personally, I felt it was a breathtaking experience watching and reading Quranic verses on the large screen.

"There will also be a clip relating Science and Islam based on verses from Surah Yassin. So people really should not miss the opportunity, we can all learn something from what will be in store," she said.

Marhaini expressed hope that the event would be able to get more people to read the Quran, understand its meaning, and glean lessons from what they have learned.

She added that the symbolic date was meaningful to Malaysians as it is rare for the nation to celebrate both National Day and Hari Raya Aidiladha on the same night.

“On the 9th of Zulhijjah, which is the night of Merdeka, we will hold a feast after the Merdeka #QuranHour programme around 10.30pm and everyone is invited.

"That night, the attendees of the Merdeka #QuranHour event are our VIPs; just forget our differences, whether you are a member of the elite or homeless, we are family."

Twenty-one main reciters would be leading the recitation and the attendees would follow their lead by reading together as a large group.

The event is also held in conjunction with World #QuranHour to be held at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque at the International Islamic University from 12pm to 1pm on the same day.

For one hour, Quran recitations will be held to encourage reading, understanding and discussions of the holy scripture. Media Prima Group is one of World #QuranHour’s media partners.
