Jawi launches AQWA to foster future quran reciters

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) today launched the Federal Territory Quran Academy (AQWA), with the goal of cultivating skilled male and female Quran reciters for the future.

Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer officiated the academy today on behalf of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mohktar.

In his speech text read out by Syed Kamarulzaman, Mohd Na'im said the academy aims to uncover new talents in Quran recitation, especially in the Federal Territories.

"AQWA operates fully at the Federal Territory Mosque and conducts classes every Saturday for nine hours," he said.

Mohd Na'im said a total of 31 male and female Quran reciters from Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan will join the first group, with seven instructors appointed from among recitation experts and former champions.

"The teaching methods focus on training participants in tajwid, fluency, melodious recitation and voice," he said.

At the AQWA launch event, a programme celebrating Nuzul Al-Quran in the Federal Territory was held, with 300 participants including university students, tahfiz students, government and private sector representatives.

Meanwhile Jawi director Datuk Haji Mohd Ajib Ismail said the celebration aims to inspire Muslims to embody Quranic values in their lives, promoting unity, harmony and tolerance in society.

At the event, National and International Qari Ustaz Abdul Khair Jalil recited verses from the holy Quran, followed by a contemplation session led by National Mosque chief imam Ustaz Ehsan Mohd Hosni. --BERNAMA
