Gatco probe hots up as MACC visit Wisma Negeri in Seremban

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) probe into the 40-year old Gatco estate land deals appears to be ramping up, with the commission's officers making a visit to Wisma Negeri today.

Four MACC officers went to the fourth floor of the state secretariat building at 11am. At press time, they are still conducting the probe in a meeting room behind closed doors.

It is understood that MACC is also expected to raid Negeri Sembilan Economic Development Corp later today.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad said over the weekend that the commission will set up a special task force to probe corruption claims made by a group of settlers who invested in a 2,000ha land scheme under Gatco or Great Alonioners Trading Corp (Gatco) in 1977.

The company has since gone bankrupt.

Meanwhile, an English daily reported that MACC also raided several locations simultaneously in Petaling Jaya, which include Thamarai Holdings, the National Union of Plantation Workers and a lawyer's office in Plaza Pengkalan in Jalan Tiong.
