Wife killed, husband injured in crash with dog's carcass

KLUANG: A man lost his wife in an accident when the motorcycle they riding crashed into the carcass of a dog that was lying in the middle of the road at Km79 Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam near Machap last night.

In the 9.45pm incident, Rusli Mohamad, 58, was riding with his wife Siti Zaharah Dasuki, 52, as his pillion when he lost control of the machine.

Johor traffic police chief Superintendant Dzulkhairi Mokhtar said the couple were flung upon impact with the dead dog and they landed on the ground.

"The wife died on the spot after the crash. Initial investigations showed that motorcyclist was riding downhill. He could not avoid the dog that was in his path," Dzulkhairi told the New Straits Times.

He said Rusli was sent to Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang and was treated for minor injuries.

"His wife was sent to the same hospital for post mortem. The husband is in a stable condition though he is still in shock and saddened by his wife's death," he said.

The incident occurred when Rusli and Siti Zaharah were heading towards Machap from Simpang Renggam.

The case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
