Taman Melawati residents want details of proposed park to be sorted out

KUALA LUMPUR: Taman Melawati residents are seeking more details from the Selangor government on the proposed construction of a convention centre instead of a centralised park on a plot of land here.

This follows a statement by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali to an English language portal that the project developer will not be rushing to build the convention centre.

Azmin’s response came after residents’ protested on the relocation of a centralised park a kilometre away from its original proposed area.

He had also given instructions to the developers to go ahead with the proposed park adding that it will not be ‘demolished’ or ‘scrapped.’

He however, did not clarify where the park will be located - on the land where his service centre is presently located or the space mentioned in the development plans.

The Selangor Menteri Besar had also mentioned that he was sacrificing his service centre, for the park and had spoken to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to have a meeting with the residents on the matter.

Taman Melawati Residents’ Association (TMRA) Zone ABC chairman Razman Hakimi Abdullah said Azmin’s was not giving them the whole picture if the convention centre would also comprise a “green space” or a mini-park.

“So is this the 'park' on the Menteri Besar’s service centre that will be sacrificed as stated Azmin earlier?,“

“Which is true now? I believe the approval for the convention centre was only made in April by MPAJ and state government this year,” Razman said.

He added that the developments plans approved by the state government shows that the park will be replaced with a convention centre and the proposed park itself moved to another location.

Razman said the residents need clear and precise information from all the relevant authorities and want the centralised park development to be back on track.

Earlier, the developer for the convention centre stated that they received approval on the plans to construct the centralised park near Serini Melawati instead of the original location, where it was earlier proposed.
