HR Ministry to cooperate with MACC over suspected embezzlement probe

PUTRAJAYA: The Human Resources Ministry will extend its full cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the latter’s investigation over alleged misappropriation of government funds.

Yesterday, MACC arrested four people, including a Datuk, at several locations in Kuala Lumpur for their alleged involvement in embezzlement of funds slated for the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK).

In a statement today, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Anak Jaem said the ministry will support MACC’s effort to fight corruption.

“The ministry guarantees its full cooperation to the MACC and will leave it to the commission to carry out its investigations into the allegation,” he said.

The suspects are a 58-year-old Datuk, a company secretary, an assistant finance officer and a company director.

They were believed to have abetted the 38-year-old director with embezzling funds totaling RM40 million, allocated by the Federal government between 2016 and 2017, to provide skill training programmes for the unemployed.

Preliminary investigation showed that they had embezzled RM15 million in 2016 and RM25 million this year.

Three of the suspects had given approval to 15 companies owned by the director to conduct training programmes.

MACC obtained a six-day remand order for the four beginning today.

PTPK was established in June 2006 under the Skills Development Fund Act 2004 (Act 640) to manage the Skills Development Fund, which was previously run by the Skills Development Fund Division under the Human Resources Ministry.
