KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urged the public not to share pictures of victims who were killed in the fire at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz centre.
He expressed sadness and disappointment to see the pictures being posted and viralled on social media platforms.
“Where are our values and ethics as Muslims and civilised human beings who should empathise with those who lost their loved ones,” he asked on his Facebook posting.
Chairman of the UMNO Grassroots Movement (GAUM), Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, in a statement today, also shared similar views, stating that he hopes all pictures and videos on the fire victims that have been viralled on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, will be deleted.
“Possibly, spreading the pictures and video is seen as a way of channelling information, but the important thing to empathise with the feelings of the families of the victims.
“Spreading such pictures will certainly create an uncomfortable feeling and trauma among them,” he said.
He said it would be more apt for Malaysians to pray for the victims to be blessed by Allah and their family members to be given patience and strength for having lost their loved ones.
The fire, which broke out at 5.15am killed 21 students and two wardens. – BERNAMA
