Economic empowerment, reducing cost of living among matters discussed at Unity Government Secretariat meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: Economic empowerment and strategies to reduce the rising cost of living for the people were among the matters discussed during the Unity Government Secretariat Top Leadership meeting last night.

Secretariat chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a Facebook post said the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was attended by the top leadership of all 14 political parties that form the unity government.

Also discussed was the Bumiputera Economic Congress, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli.

The congress is scheduled to take place from Feb 29 to March 2.

"Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) and the Economy Ministry have been entrusted to be the permanent secretariat of the congress, in which both will coordinate the entire planning process, including the involvement of 10 clusters comprising various stakeholders such as academics, entrepreneurs, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporate figures and young entrepreneurs among others."

Asyraf said the meeting also agreed to organise the Unity Convention in states, involving parties that formed the Madani government.

The Unity Convention at the state level will commence in Perak on Jan 28.
