Pahang businessman survives being shot 7 times by unknown assailants

LIPIS: A businessman was shot seven times while driving along Jalan Besar Kuala Medang-Sungai Koyan here at 10pm last night. He survived, with grievous injuries.

The 55-year-old is believed to have been on his way home to Raub when he was accosted by a group of five men who shot him at close range.

District police chief Superintendent Azry Akmar Ayob said the victim was driving a Toyota Hilux when he was attacked by the men, who were in a passing Proton Wira.

"The motive is still under investigation. We will record a statement from the victim as soon as he is able to provide it, and from witnesses of the incident, as well as get clues from the scene," he said when contacted today.

Azry said that the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters' (IPK) forensic unit has been called in to assist in the investigation, and will collect fingerprints and bullet casings at the site of the shooting.

It is understood that the victim was first brought to a clinic in Sungai Koyan by members of the public, and is currently warded at the Kuala Lipis Hospital.

Azry said the matter is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act and Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.
