17 people still at flood relief centre in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: Seventeen people, from five families, who were evacuated when flash floods hit their village a few days ago, are still at the relief centre at Dewan Cenderawasih in Pendang.

According to the Kedah Disaster Management Department Secretariat, the victims are all from Kampung Sukamari, Air Puteh, and they have yet to return home as the flood water at their houses has yet to recede.

“The drainage system and clogged drains have been identified as the reasons for the flood water not receding.

“The Drainage and Irrigation Department and the local government authority should look at the matter seriously,” said the secretariat in a statement today.

Continuous rain early this month caused several areas in Kedah to be flooded, especially in the Kuala Muda, Baling, Pendang and Bandar Baharu districts. -- Bernama
