Militants planning to sabotage Better Beer Festival: IGP

POLICE advised the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) against allowing the controversial ‘Better Beer Festival 2017’ to be held in the federal capital, solely because of security reasons.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun revealed yesterday that police had received information on militants planning on sabotaging the event, that was scheduled to be held early next month.

“The information also suggested that there were several parties bent on disrupting the event... this will create a security issue,” he said in a statement.

Fuzi also said the planned sabotage by the militants, were triggered by their belief that the event was against their own beliefs and struggles.

He said police had to take proactive measures and object to the event, to prevent any untoward incidents from happening.

This he said was done in the name of preserving public order, as well as the safety and security of the public.

DBKL had refused to give organisers of the event, which was supposed to be held on Oct 6 and 7 at a premises in the city, its stamp of approval.

The decision issued earlier, triggered protests on the social media, by certain groups who had not been privy to the reasons behind rejection of the permit application. -- Bernama
