Unimas student killed in car-lorry collision near Kuching

KUCHING: A University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) student was killed when the car he was driving crashed head-on with a lorry at Batu 7, Jalan Kuching Ranger Depot here about 7.45am.

The victim was identified as Muhammad Hamzah Haris Saiffudin, aged 20.

Initial investigation revealed that Muhammad, who was driving a Perodua Kancil, was heading to the city from Kota Sentosa, said State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Deputy Superintendent Bingkok John.

"It was learnt that the Kancil had suddenly swerved into the opposite lane with the lorry coming straight at him from the opposite direction,"

"The 35-year-old lorry driver was unable to avoid the car," he said, adding that the victim died on the spot.

Bingkok said police have sent the victim's body to the Sarawak General Hospital for post mortem.
