SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah launched the Wakaf Selangor Muamalat (WSM) mobile clinic services Friday at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque.
The mobile clinic service is a collaborative effort between WSM and selected hospitals.
WSM chairman Tan Sri Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad said via this collaboration, the Islamic endowment body would provide modified vehicles to be used as mobile clinics, while the hospitals involved will provide the manpower and medicines.
“Wakaf Selangor Muamalat has set up three mobile clinics to date to benefit the people in Selangor and Kelantan. We are looking to expand the number of mobile clinics in the future.
“Two of the mobile clinics are in collaboration with KPJ Damansara, Selangor Specialist Hospital and KPJ Perdana, Kota Bharu, Kelantan Specialist Hospital, while the other is in collaboration with the Beacon International Specialist Centre, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
“Each clinic operates at a predetermined location and occasionally visits other areas on ad-hoc basis,” he said.
Rahman said among the types of treatments offered at the mobile clinics are blood pressure examinations; diabetes, vision and physical checks; and consultation services.
As of today, he said the mobile clinics have been operating in several districts in Selangor.
Among the locations in Selangor are Kota Damansara Mosque; As-Salam Puchong Mosque; Masjid Al-Ubudiah, Jalan Tasik Tambahan 3, Ampang; Pangsapuri Baiduri- Bandar Tasik Kesuma, Beranang; Surau Al Mubarak, Kota Damansara; Pusat Khidmat Masyarakat Mukim Dengkil; Ethnic Rohingya Committee of Arakana, Jalan Raya 3, Serdang; Madrasah Muiinul-Islam Rohingya, Jalan Pasar Baru 3, Off Jalan Meru, Klang; Madrasah Rohingya Al Khariah, Jalan Hentian, Kajang; Immigration Depot Semenyih, Kajang; and Immigration Depot KLIA, Sepang.
It has also offered health care services to the Gua Musang, Kelantan flood victims in late 2014 and early 2015, he said.
Two of the mobile clinics, WSM-KPJ Damansara (1,762 patients) and WSM-KPJ Perdana (326 patients) mobile clinics had, as of August 2017 received 2,088 patients since 2015, while the WSM-Beacon Hospital mobile clinic receives some 2,000 patients yearly.
WSM is a charity fundraising programme which was launched on Sept 27, 2012.
Rahman said the programme was a product of a joint venture between Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd and Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor aimed at being the charitable arm for the bank’s customers and the general public.
“So far, Wakaf Selangor Muamalat has contributed RM8,808,784.30 for education and healthcare.
“Donations for education include contributions to school buildings, van and projectors, while for healthcare it included mobile clinics, dialysis machines, nitrogen storage tanks and other medical equipment.”
Rahman said besides that, the fund would also be invested in order to expand the value of the wakaf funds.
“Bank Muamalat through its branch network in Malaysia has accumulated and managed wakaf funds along with the Selangor Wakaf Corporation.
“Donors are eligible for a seven per cent tax deduction from an individual aggregate income and 10 per cent for corporations,” he shared.
