Kedah MB pays tribute to late 'Iron Lady' Datuk Maznah

ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah has described the death of former Kedah Wanita Umno chief Datuk Maznah Hamid as a great lost to the state.

He said the renowned 62-year-old entrepreneur made numerous contributions in the state’s political arena and in its business development.

He said Maznah will always be remembered as the ‘Iron Lady’ who inspired many to follow in her footsteps.

“She was an icon who devoted her life to both (politics and business). She was a role model to many people, including her peers,” he said in a statement.

Maznah, who was the Jerlun Wanita Umno chief, passed away at 6pm yesterday after suffering complications following a heart operation on Sept 28.

The executive chairman of Kumpulan Securiforce Sdn Bhd was reported to have undergone the heart operation after two blood vessels in her heart were found to be blocked.

Meanwhile, Jerlun Wanita Umno deputy chief Rohani Mat Aris said Maznah was a pillar of strength for Wanita Jerlun, after serving as the division Wanita chief for 22 years.

She said Maznah organised many programmes to help improve the livelihood of local women, especially single mothers and the underprivileged.

“In fact, early last month, she initiated an entrepreneurship programme for single mothers and we were supposed to hold another programme in the middle of this month,” she said when contacted.

Rohani said the Umno Wanita wing in Jerlun will continue the legacy left behind by Maznah.
